Back to School Newsletter

First Day of School is Monday, August 15th. Can’t wait to see all of you! The School Board calendar is available at www.sbac.edu

School shirts: Every child receives a T-shirt, so please send us your child’s T-shirt size on the Directory form.

Art Curriculum Donations Needed: your $360.00 donation is essential for our arts curriculum expenses. Please mail your check by August 26, 2016, to help us with ordering and planning. Your $360 donation is tax deductible. Thanks for helping our school as we continue to provide music, dance, drama and art as BASIC curriculum!

Drop Off and Pick Up: Follow the Parking Rules to keep our students safe.

The driveway in front of the school is for drop off and pick up only. If you need to stop, chat, or get out of your car, please use the Dragon Parking Lot next door by the Track.

First Friday of every month is early 12:30 dismissal day. There will be after school care on those days.

1st Early dismissal will be Friday, Sept. 2nd.

Afterschool Care begins at Expressions on Monday, August 15th! Prepaid only $12 per day or $50 per week. Checks only (PayPal coming soon).

Aftercare for when Clubs dismiss will also be $12 per day, again. Please fill out Initial Aftercare Enrollment form and also fill out the weekly or daily aftercare attendance form, as needed.

Forms are located in the front office and on a clipboard outside office door. Aftercare is from dismissal time until 5:30 PM daily.

Afterschool clubs for 1st through 5th graders (available at our Meet the Teacher and sent home in the Friday Red Folders)

*****Attention 3rd, 4th & 5th graders: We are pleased to offer a weaving class on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 PM. Class size is limited to 6 students, so call the office soon to reserve your spot.*****

Keyboarding/typing requirements: 3rd, 4th & 5th graders will now need to work on keyboarding skills at home as well as at school due to the amount of practice this new skill requires. Any keyboarding software is fine (Sponge Bob, Typing Instructor for Kids, Jump Start, free apps and websites, etc). We suggest requiring 10 minutes of practice.

Emergency Card Data Sheets: Please complete and return the emergency card data sheet in the donation envelope. Please include cell phone numbers & email addresses. Note: If your address has changed since last year, please come to office to fill out a new Basic Student Information Form for update and with a copy of TWO utility bills that show the new address.

Required Supplies Lists: It is important that each child bring all the supplies needed for school and their individual class. Supply lists can be found on the web site and will also be given out at “Meet the Teacher”.

Consumable Books: Please be aware that teachers will be asking for $30–$40 for consumable workbooks and weekly science/social studies periodicals at open house. These items will be yours to keep.

Expressions Tote Bags: Once again, we provide one canvas Expressions tote bag to each child in the school. Children should use these instead of backpacks.

Expressions Planners: We will also provide each child in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades with their own Planner. Other classes have other arrangements.

Back to School Nights: All students and parents will be invited to “Back-to-School” nights after Labor Day. Stay tuned for dates and time.

Volunteer Jobs: Congratulations! All parents are members of our PTO and we have lots of ways for you to fill your required 10 hour commitment. PTO will send out volunteer needs e mails. If you would like to help, please contact Heather Hushelpeck at 352-219-2711 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Before School Care: Before-school care begins at 7:45 am and ends at 8:15 am, when all children will go to their classrooms. For safety reasons, any child arriving before 8:15 am must be escorted by a parent to the playground or studio room if raining — do not just drop them off— do not wait in front of school.

3rd Grade...........8:30am
1st and 2nd...........8:30
Kindergarten……………9:00am

* If you are more than 5 minutes late to school you MUST sign your child in at the office!

We can no longer be relaxed about tardy arrivals. The teachers carefully plan their opening activities to relate to the day’s learning. Please be respectful and arrive on time. Missed work will have to be done at recess that day. Alachua County schools have a new database system which requires each teacher to input absent or tardy students on their class computer within the first 15 minutes of class.

Toys, etc: Please remind your child that toys, trading cards, candy/gum, video games, music players, IPads, cell phones, expensive pens, money, make-up, cameras, etc. are not allowed.

Due to PE requirements, shoes that kids can run in must be worn daily. Flip Flops are not allowed: closed-toed shoes are preferred.

Staggered Dismissal times: Please note that we have staggered dismissal times so that we can decrease traffic and increase safety at pick up time. We ask that you not play on the playground after school, as this defeats the purpose of each grade having a speedy, safe dismissal. There is a nice park with real swings at the end of this street, though (Squirrel Ridge Park). Thanks for your cooperation.

STAFF NEWS: Welcome Miss Cynthia, our Fabulous Fourth Grade Teacher :-) Welcome back and thanks to our wonderful returning staff!

School Directory forms for returning students will be sent home the first week of school for edits and ads or shout outs.

We are so glad to have you and your family with us! We will always provide your child with an exciting learning environment of academic excellence enhanced by the arts. That is our reason for being, so our arts programs will never be cut. We are, of course, always affected by the statewide under-funding of education and restructuring which affects the amount of funding we receive for each child, especially in the arts. We will be counting on your continued support for fundraising, volunteering and donations more than ever.

Now for the important stuff: Back to School Skating Party: Wednesday, August 24, 2016: 3–5 PM. at the Skate Station Funworks, behind Newberry Road Shopping Center.

With the help of some AMAZING volunteers, our school is ready for an exciting, innovative educational adventure. THANKS!!!

Enjoy the rest of your summer! Read! Be Safe! Have Fun! See you MONDAY!
