Enrollment Information

Expressions Learning Arts Academy is a free public charter school.

We are nonsectarian and multicultural.

Enrollment is open to any Alachua County elementary student in grades K-5.

Total school enrollment is limited to 85.

Each class has 10-16 students.

Kindergarten students must be 5 by September 1st of the year they are entering.

First grade students must be 6 by September 1st of the year they are entering.

Applications

Parents can call the school and arrange to take a tour, which is offered ONCE monthly. During the tour, you will meet our director, view a video about how we integrate the arts into our academic curriculum, see the school in action, and receive an application form. Please note that tours fill up fast — especially in the Spring. Please call the school as soon as possible to arrange a tour.

All applications are put into waiting lists for each grade.

Kindergarten openings are filled by lottery starting in March of the year of entry.

All other openings are filled by lottery as they become available.

Siblings of current students, and children of staff are given priority and their applications are processed before any lottery.

Please note that many changes can occur with the status of our applicants and current students, so the openings may happen at any time.

Notification of Selection

If your child is selected by the lottery, Expressions will mail out an acceptance letter, which will require a response via US mail and phone. We do not mail out notifications to families who were NOT accepted. Please call the office if you wish to know the status of your child's application.

Requirements

After your child is selected by lottery, all new parents must attend an orientation interview with our principal before the admission process is complete.

Although our school does not require auditions for admissions, our charter does require that our students, family, and staff commit to participation and support of the art components of our program. We realize that our mission and presentation of the arts may not be preferred by every parent, or suitable for all children. We strongly advise perspective students and their families to observe our methods and have a clear understanding of our philosophy.

All prospective families need to be aware that our charter requires that each parent volunteer at least 10 hours a year to Expressions. We have many flexible ways in which this can be accomplished.
